Mr. Logic's Book: "Shades of Reality"

"Shades of Reality" is a book about fuzzy logic. However, unlike most other books about the subject (which tend to focus on engineering aplications), "Shades of Reality" explores the societal implications of fuzzy logic. Among the topics it investigates are: the American legal system, human Rights & Equality, genetic engineering, and the existence of God and Heaven, just to name a few. And, along the way, the book also resolves the abortion issue once and for all! (See Chapter 11)

"Shades of Reality" was written in 1996, and first published in January of 1998 by Glenbridge Publishing, Ltd. It originally sold for $21.95 in hardcover form. A limited number of copies of that first edition are still available. Contact Mr. Logic for more information.

In the spring of 1996 while on a driving trip to the Los Angeles area I stopped to visit Howard and Marsha Sanshuck, two of my friends who I had known for many years. When I phoned to let them know that I was in town, I was shocked to discover that Marsha was in the hospital suffering from cancer.

Marsha's family and I visited her in the hospital almost everyday and, when Marsha would occasionally drift off to sleep, her daughter (Janna) and I would debate issues about religion, philosophy, and fuzzy logic. These conversations with Janna provided the impetus for me to begin writing the Shades of Reality manuscript.

Eventually I had to leave Los Angeles and return to Santa Cruz. But before I left, I promised Marsha that if my manuscript ever got published, her daughter's name would have a special place on the acknowledgment page.

About a month later Howard Sanshuck phoned me. His wife, Marsha, had passed away.

After the funeral I once again returned to Santa Cruz and continued working on the manuscript. And after many long months of hard work, Shades of Reality was finally completed and published.

On 1998 January 29, I got to hold the finished product in my hands for the very first time. But when I opened the book I was horrified to discover that my agent had tampered with my original manuscript! Instead of finding my dedication and acknowledgment pages as I had written them, I found that she had, in effect, rededicated the book to herself!!

I'm sorry to have to report that Ms. Davison is no longer employed as my agent. I thank her for the effort she made in helping to get the book published, but I do not thank her at all for her underhanded attempt at self-gratification.

In this on-line republication of Shades of Reality I have restored the original dedication and acknowledgement pages as they were meant to be (sans my agent’s name), and I have made a small number of very minor corrections to parts of the manuscript. Other than that, this version of Shades of Reality is identical to the hard-cover version which was published by Glenbridge in January of 1998. (Notice that the original title was The Shades of Reality, but the publisher chose to eliminate the first word.)
