How to Install SiMPLE

Installing SiMPLE onto any drive on your Windows computer (or updating your existing copy of SiMPLE) has never been easier! Just perform three "simple" steps: Download our zipped "Package" folder . . . Unzip the zipped "Package" folder. . . And then run the built-in installer program.

Suggestion:

(If you're not already planning on installing SiMPLE onto a flash drive,
you might want to consider doing so. Click here for more information.)

(Current Version: 12.05.15)

  1. Download the file named "Package.zip" onto your desktop and unzip it. (If you don't know how to download and unzip files from the Internet, click here to read how.) Inside the unzipped "Package" folder you will find a folder named "newkit" and a file named "Install.exe":

(The above image might look different on your computer, depending on
the version of Windows that you are using and how you've configured it.)

  2. Double-click the "Install.exe" file. (If some kind of security dialog box appears, just tell it that it's OK to run the program.) A menu will appear, asking you where you want to install* SiMPLE:

*(The installer program doesn't really "install" anything.
It merely copies some files and folders onto your drive.)

  3. Click the button whose label corresponds to the letter of the drive you wish to use. (Or click the "Exit" button to cancel installation.)

[If a button is yellow (instead of light gray), it means that SiMPLE might (or might not) work on that drive.]

If the installer program sees that your drive already has a copy of SiMPLE on it, you will be asked if you want to update your existing copy.

Depending on the speed of your computer and the type of drive you are using, the installation (or update) process can take anywhere from several seconds to several minutes. So just be patient. (While SiMPLE is being installed/updated, a small kaleidoscope will be displayed to help keep you entertained. If you need to cancel the installation/update process at any time, just press the "Esc" key on your keyboard.)

When the installer program finishes, it will display a confirmation message informing you that the installation was sucessful.*

*If you don't get the confirmation message (or if the installation process
seems to be taking forever), try running the installer program a second time.
And if it still  doesn't install properly, you can just manually install SiMPLE.
(All you have to do is merely copy some files and folders to your drive).

Windows 7 Users:

After the "Install.exe" program finishes, you may see a dialog box warning you that the program might not have installed correctly. Just ignore this dialog box. (Click the "Cancel" button.)

After SiMPLE has been sucessfully installed, the "Package.zip" file and the "Package" folder are no longer needed. (Feel free to delete them if you so choose.)

Attention Flash Drive Users:
Each time you plug your flash drive into a different computer, you must always remember to double-click the "Activate" icon (the "light bulb" in the drive's root directory) in order to activate SiMPLE for use on the new computer.

Note: When using SiMPLE on a drive other than the main "C:" drive, the "S i M P L E" icon (toy block) might only allow you to use SiMPLE in "Command-line" mode. In that event, find the "Drop SiMPLE Listing Here" icon (located in your "Samples" folder and/or in the root directory of your drive). Use that "Drop SiMPLE Listing Here" icon instead of the normal "S i M P L E" icon to use SiMPLE in "Drag & Drop" mode.
