The
"Bishop's Square" puzzle is similar in concept to the famous "Rubik's Cube"
puzzle. However, instead of rotating the sections of a three dimensional
cube, you "rotate" the sections of a two dimensional image
by sliding them up, down, left, and right, in a "wrap-around" manner.

The original version of the "Bishop's Square" puzzle was written for the Apple-II computer by Bob Bishop, and was published circa 1980 by a company called DataSoft. (See the image to the right.)
