An Alternate Method of
|

An alternate method of running the previous example program is to perform the following three steps:
|
A. Copy the source listing into the Windows Clipboard, B. Paste the contents of the Clipboard into SiMPLE, C. Issue a "RUN" command. |
Let us now go through each of these three steps to see exactly how to do them.
A. How to copy the source listing into the Clipboard:
|
The source listing is now in the Clipboard. But before you can paste it into SiMPLE (Step B), you must first start up SiMPLE by double-clicking the SiMPLE icon on your desktop. (If you have not yet downloaded your FREE copy of SiMPLE, click here.)
When SiMPLE starts, it displays the names of all the programs that you've previously created. Since this is your very first program, the window would be mostly empty except for some standard header information at the top.
In the SiMPLE window, first type:
editor winand press the "Enter" key. (This merely tells SiMPLE to use Windows NOTEPAD as the text editor from now on.)*
*This step need be performed only once. The NOTEPAD editor will then
remain in effect until such time as you change back to the DOS editor.
B. How to paste the contents of the Clipboard into SiMPLE:
|
|
**[On some computers, the NOTEPAD editor doesn't close its output file properly when used with SiMPLE (It will issue a "Save As" request when you select "Yes".) If you encounter this request, you will have to use an alternate method of transferring a program's source listing.] |
When the NOTEPAD editor closes, you return to the black SiMPLE window where you should see the word "EXAMPLE" in yellow letters inside a long rectangle near the top of the window.
C. How to issue a "RUN" command:
Just type the word:
|
The words "compiling...." and "linking...." will appear briefly, and then the game will begin.
Go ahead and play the game for as long as you like. When you're ready to to quit, just press the "Esc" key on your keyboard.
| Note: When a SiMPLE program finishes executing, it may end up leaving the black SiMPLE window as a full-screen display. If this happens, don't be alarmed. To change the full-screen display back into a window, simply hold down the 'Alt' key and then press the 'Enter' key. Presto! The display goes back into being a SiMPLE window on your desktop. |
Congratulations! You now know how to run any SiMPLE source listing. (Merely follow the same steps that you just went through here. But when you type the "OPEN" command, remember to choose a different name for each program.)
